Is there anybody out there using a USB to serial
adapter between their K2 and pc for rig control/logging? If so, how well does it work, and what brand are you using? I understand that some of them work well and some don't. Thanks for the bandwidth. 73, Mark Baugh W5EZY Grenada MS __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! If you want to be sure to get a good, working USB to serial adapter, I can recomend the microham USB adapter. It is more expensive than a simple USB to serial converter, but it has been designed for ham radios and it has CAT, PTT, keying and audio interface in one small box, see http://www.microham.com/USB%20interfaces.html I have been using it with my IC-765 but they have cables for practically all known ham radios. It's much better than a simple USB to serial adapter. 73 Alex OZ9AEC _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The one I have that works is from Iogear, model GUC232A. You can Google it
for ordering info. Tiger Direct sells them for $29.99. I bought a similar one at BestBuy and it didn't work at all. I have no idea what the difference is. They both looked the same. I can also second the motion for the microHAM devices. While they sell a $119 USB/Serial converter, I have the microKEYER ($259). It includes a software driver that lets me create multiple virtual USB ports so I can have several pieces of software talking to various components of the microKEYER and the radio at the same time. This is surprisingly useful. Nice metallic cable, completely unlabelled slightly translucent grey block on the 9-pin-male end. Linux seems to think it is a "Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port". Cost me about 6 quid. That's about $10. Seems to work fine with my K2/100, but I'll admit I've barely built it and only done the basic serial ports tests and a bit more playing with CAT commands. I've not put any "real software" on it yet. -- "Nosey" Nick Waterman, G7RZQ, K2 #5209. use Std::Disclaimer; [hidden email] Virtual reality is its own reward. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Elecrafters:
Has anyone used a West Mountain PWRGate PG40S between the power supply and the K2/100. Does the 0.3V voltage drop cause any problems? 73, Steve AA4AK _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
