How can the USB-to-Serial Cable be used with WinVista?
The driver CD that came with the cable from Elecraft does not provide Vista drivers. The Elecraft website (=> Software => K3 Software and Downloader => K3 Utilities for Windows, Mac and Linux => Important) solicitates installing the latest USB drivers from the Prolific web site instead of the older ones on the supplied disk. At http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31, however, notifies readers, that Prolific will not be providing Vista drivers for end-users and refers customers to the vendor of your cable. Did anybody succeed to install and use the cable with WinVista and how? Secondly, the cable uses the 9pin-serial port at the rear panel. The same port is needed for the cable to control the linear amplifier (in my case HL-1.5KFX which requires Kenwood cable and command). How can I use computer AND amplifier with the K3 at the same time? Any suggestions? Thanks! 73s DF1AL Joe _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Joe,
That seems to be Prolific's cryptic way of saying that Vista provides the correct up to date drivers. I don't know the answer to your amplifier question - maybe someone else can help. How do Kenwood transceivers handle both the computer and amplifier? There may be some clues in the answer to that question - I believe that the K3 implementation would be similar to Kenwood's. 73, Don W3FPR Jürgen Weidemann wrote: > How can the USB-to-Serial Cable be used with WinVista? > > The driver CD that came with the cable from Elecraft does not provide Vista > drivers. > > The Elecraft website (=> Software => K3 Software and Downloader => K3 > Utilities for Windows, Mac and Linux => Important) solicitates installing > the latest USB drivers from the Prolific web site instead of the older ones > on the supplied disk. > > At http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31, however, notifies > readers, that Prolific will not be providing Vista drivers for end-users and > refers customers to the “vendor of your cable”. > > Did anybody succeed to install and use the cable with WinVista – and how? > > Secondly, the cable uses the 9pin-serial port at the rear panel. Instead, make up a cable to go from the ACC connector on the K3 to the DIN5 connector on the HK-1.5Kfx and treat he K3 as if it was Yaesu. The HL1.5Kfx only decodes the Band information from responses to the IF; get. The BCD "band data" available from ACC will provide the same data and leave the RS-232 port free for your computer/logger. 73, ...
