Also upgrading the shack, ordered a K4, have a KPA/KAT500 for the K3,
may order a second KPA/KAT500. I will not be ordering a 1500, 500 is enough for what I want. I have one remote setup now, hope to be moving it to a new location with lots less noise. I will start with my TS-590SG at the remote for now, but either the K3 or the K4 will end up there later next year. Sure hope the K4 is shipped in January! Hi Gordon:
I have the same here (K-Line K3S/P3/KAT500/KPA500) as a backup or maybe time to sell that system off. Not remote here, but have played with using the KPA500 remote software but it keeps failing, looking for something (Driver) that isn't present. KAT500 remote works fine though. One of the cold winter spells I will get the KPA500 working with the KPA500 remote software. I am going to check out Node Red or Red Node software one of those cold days as well. -- *73 De Mike* *VE3YF _/http://www.ve3yf.com/_* ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Update:
The KPA1500 left Elecraft on 20 Dec 2019, and arrived in Mount Hope, Ontario 21 Dec 2019, with a guaranteed delivery to me on 23 Dec 2019. And the KPA1500 is still in Mount Hope, Ontario, due to no fault of Elecraft, Canada Customs, Weather and myself. UPS is the most useless carrier I have ever dealt with, and after clearing customs they would not allow the KPA1500 to be picked up in person even after taxes etc had been paid. Actually they wanted taxes paid prior to going into Canada Customs. Just a note for Elecraft, I will be sending a complete timetable of all the events that have transpired, and maybe they can also get a FedEx shipping account as I have had nothing but great success dealing with FedEx. UPS says I might see the package on 31 Dec 2019, heavy emphasis on might. The Christmas Grinch arrived at this shack. I feel for you Mike
I recently ordered some parts from the RAM mounts company in western US for mounting my KX3 on the dash of my truck and watched the progress on UPS's website. The support staff was next to useless. I wanted to pre-pay the duties and taxes but they couldn't tell me how much that would be even after their website showed the shipment had cleared customs. Their delivery date expired and was revised no less than three times. The package entered the country at Windsor but they had to take it to Concord Ontario even though you just know the truck came down HWY401 right past the Kitchener distribution center before continuing on 80km past me in the wrong direction, after which it sat in Concord for two days. Fedex will charge me $50 brokerage on a $2.00 part from Sparkfun. I actually prefer and have had much better experiences with USPS and they have expedited and insured shipping. Thats how I got my recent KX3,PX3 and KXPAT100 combo and the shipping was flawless. With our d ismal dollar buying from the US is just a painful experience no matter how you cut it. I can imagine your frustration waiting for the KPA1500. I was a UPS driver for 27 years. I'm sorry you are having problems with your delivery. That being said, I have to say that it is the busiest time of the year for delivery companies. You may have a vision of your package sitting on a shelf, all by itself. That is not the case! your package is there in the customs house with 10's of thousands of other packages. The system is overwhelmed. I doubt FedX could really do any better ant this time of year. I know you are excited to get your new amp, but please have some patience. There are currently hundreds of UPS and FedX drivers on the big road (on Christmas day) trying to get things to where they need to be. I ship more and more items via USPS Priority with added insurance as
necessary. It is faster and less costly and more reliable than Fed-X or UPS. I shipped my K3S to Elecraft via USPS Priority on a Tuesday and it arrived at Elecraft on Thursday. They repaired it, updated it and sent it back by UPS Ground. It sat in the Distribution center in Ohio for 5 days. Total time back to me was 11 days in transit. The daughter shipped a large box via UPS Ground from Orlando to us in middle TN. It sat in Memphis for 5 days, thus was in transit for 11 days and only a week later than originally scheduled. Oh, there wasn't a K4 under my Christmas tree. Did you get one? Maybe next year. 73 Bob, K4TAX On 12/25/2019 8:28 AM, Joseph Street wrote: > I feel for you Mike > > > I recently ordered some parts from the RAM mounts company in western US for mounting my KX3 on the dash of my truck and watched the progress on UPS's website. Mike, > UPS is the most useless carrier I have ever dealt with, ... > and maybe they can also get a FedEx shipping account as I > have had nothing but great success dealing with FedEx. Unfortunately, other than USPS, UPS is the best of a bad lot. FedEx mess up more deliveries than they get right in my experience. I've had them try to charge *China* duties on shipments coming from Europe - simply because some clerk can't be bothered to read the commercial invoice. It is not unusual for them to charge significant processing and "advance payment" fees on import shipments for which there is no duty due, etc. I've had them hold packages for payment requiring me to drive completely across the Orlando metro area (3 hour round trip with significant tolls) only to have nothing due and the counter person simply hand me the package. 5B4AGN and I recently spent most of a week trying to sort out the import of cases for his most recent multi-band BPF group buy simply because FedEx's customs clerks did not read the commercial invoice for the shipment. Thus they were unable to properly classify the products and the country of origin - even though both were clearly stated on the invoice/packing list. FedEx may have been the best at one time, but their customer service has been circling the drain for at least two to three years. Now, with FedEx acquiring the US (and perhaps CA) end of both TNT and DHL the options for shipment from Europe to the US are being significantly reduced. 73, ... Hi Joe:
Normally I would have used USPS, I have liked them in the past, however due to the weight and cost it was not a good option. I wouldn't be so ticked off, but my package went to customs 3 times, repeated billing me of taxes and no less than 12 exceptions and this is all after the guaranteed delivery date, and by the looks of it, I might see it maybe 31 Dec, which is over a week after the promised date. They also don't allow people to pickup their packages in person, tried twice. -- *73 De Mike* *VE3YF _/http://www.ve3yf.com/_* ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

When my Concept 2 rower was dropped off damaged; I was told by UPS that if a heavy item is not shipped Freight it will be damaged. The why is, regular shipping is handled by hand thus gets damaged, freight is by pallet and fork lift.

If one can avoid it, one should NEVER use UPS to ship to Canada....
They have some bizarre relationship with the "Crown's Tax Collector".... I remember customers having to pay a UPS processing fee of $50 on top of taxes, shipping, et al... That stinks but I have had similar issues with both/all carriers. FedEx
can't reliably find our house after many called to the local station and many many complaints. We had to get a box at a UPS store, irony...... where we have our packages sent. UPS will leave packages at the top of our 1/4 mile driveway along a busy street right next to a major interstate. So yea........... I hope you get your amp soon! Dear OMs and YLs,
I am sorry to hear of these problems but let me tell you that my KPA1500 was delivered from California to Ireland in four days. It and all the packaging were in perfect condition. I paid the UPS man with my credit card when the delivery arrived to our door. This payment was for all the legitimate EU and Irish taxes. It was all very easy and most satisfactory. I have only good to say for UPS. I know a FedEx driver and have only good to say for them as well. So it is best to give good and bad experiences. 73 Doug EI2CN -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Rose Sent: 25 December 2019 14:15 To: Mike VE3YF Cc: Elecraft Reflector Subject: [Elecraft] UPS vs FedEx Quite the opposite here ... I deal with multiple vendors in my business and simply won't buy from any that ships via the PTA company FedEx. 73 Rose - N7HKW Rose's Cases and Covers On Wed, Dec 25, 2019, 07:03 Mike VE3YF <[hidden email]> wrote: > Update: > > The KPA1500 left Elecraft on 20 Dec 2019, and arrived in Mount Hope, > Ontario 21 Dec 2019, with a guaranteed delivery to me on 23 Dec 2019. > > And the KPA1500 is still in Mount Hope, Ontario, due to no fault of > Elecraft, Canada Customs, Weather and myself. > > UPS is the most useless carrier I have ever dealt with, and after > clearing customs they would not allow the KPA1500 to be picked up in > person even after taxes etc had been paid.
