The ARRL Operating Manual addresses correct usage of abbreviations and notes
Q signals are for CW only. However, there is widespread mis-use as we most all can admit to. In the spirit of keeping reflector traffic at a readable volume, lets let this
topic end for the moment. :-) 73, Eric WA6HHQ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Thank goodness that everything we do in life is not dictated by the ARRL and/or the professional grammarians. If they did, regional accents would disappear, we'd have only one way to cook seafood, etc. www.baltimorehon.com is an example of things that are totally non-standard and might be eliminated by the language police. 73,Thom-k3hrn www.zerobeat.net Home of QRP Web Ring, Drakelist home page, Free Classified Ads for amateur radio, QRP IRC channel Elecraft Owners Database www.tlchost.net/ Web Hosting as low as 3.49/month _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Not to further aggravate the off-topic-ness of this topic, but this discussion
reminded me of an experience I had about 10 years ago while traveling in the Miami/Dade County area of Florida. While scanning around with a 2m handheld, I found the local police/sheriff were using nothing but Q-signals for their radio traffic. My best guess is that they chose to use this to confound many of the non-ham types (i.e. CB-radio types) who would be familiar with 10-codes. I'm sure someone in south Florida could confirm this and give a reasonable explanation for this. 73, Daniel AA0NI _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I think I used to have a microphone but haven't seen it in years.
