Using CONFIG: VFO OFS

Roy Morris-6
I did not know the RIT/XIT knob can tune VFO A in large steps when both RIT and XIT are turned off.  Go to CONFIG: VFO OFS and set to ON and go to CONFIG: CRS to vary the step size.  This does not change the RIT and XIT functions when they are turned on.  They operate the same as before.
This is listed in the CONFIG MENU, and I had not noticed it.  I am not quite sure how I will use this feature, but it is nice to have.  Roy Morris  W4WFB

MNI TNX for the very useful tip!  I have only scratched the surface of the
valuable features hidden inside the menus of the K3, and this is certainly a
feature I will implement today and use for rapid tuning.  VY 73, Lance

Lance,

If you vary the step size with CONFIG: VFO CRS, you will quickly
discover that it is PER BAND and PER MODE.

Re: Using CONFIG: VFO OFS

Dave Hachadorian
I tried using this option during Field Day last year. It
worked fine except for one problem. In a contest the
operator frequently switches between "run" and "search &
pounce" modes. In search & pounce, you want the rit off, so
you always call on the other station's frequency. In cq
mode, you want rit on, so you can tune in off-frequency
callers. If you switch to run mode, and forget to turn on
rit, when the first off-frequency caller shows up, you will
reach for the rit knob, and then immediately tune the main
vfo way off your run frequency! Your head will be spinning,
wondering what just happened.

I use the "coarse" button now for large qsy's. I also have
quick memories M1, M2, and M3 set for cw, ssb, and rtty
frequencies/setups on each band. Actually, that's the method
I use most.
