Jed I use an SB221.
I strongly suggest a "soft key" device for the amp. Mine also has a soft start, Harbaugh filter caps, and a standby switch. Tune it with a pulser - see Inrad, etc. I run on 110v, that limits the output of the amp, but 30 watts into it shows 300 watts going out. I would appreciate any tips from other users that would help me with this setup. I'm most interested in what K3 settings (power, etc.) are used during tuning. This is likely NOT a general interest topic, so PLEASE feel free to contact me directly. 73, Jed AD7KG K3 #2826 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Like its been said,is strongly adviced to use an extra relay interfaced betwwen the K3 and the SB-200/220/221 because of the high DC voltage and current of these old amps (around 150 to 175V and 300mA).Ameritron sells for around fifty bucks the ARB-704 that will do the job quite well.
In regards of tuning there is no need to buy the "pulser' when you can do it with the K3 on CW and the speed set to 50 wpm,it makes same effect that the pusler. Try to use always a good PEP meter when you tune it at maximun power and also do it at the low plate voltage on the amp (CW at front panel switch). They are great amps, for me they are war tanks that last forever if you know how to use them properly, good luck,73 AD4C "For a refined ham it is compulsory to own a k3" --- On Sat, 12/12/09, Don Rasmussen <[hidden email]> wrote: From: Don Rasmussen <[hidden email]> Subject: [Elecraft] [K3] Using K3 with Healthkit SB-220 To: "[hidden email]" <[hidden email]> Date: Saturday, December 12, 2009, 10:20 PM Jed I use an SB221.
