Using K3 with N1MM and MMTTY

Joe K2UF
I also asked this question on the N1MM reflector.  I am using N1MM COM1 port
to control the K3.  I have N1MM starting the MMTTY engine but it cannot key
the radio because the COM1 port is already being used to control the radio.
How do you K3/N1MM users interface the MMTTY engine?

Thanks

Assuming you are using FSK (FSK D), you need two serial ports.  One
port is used by N1MM Logger for radio control (connected to the K3
RS-232 port),  The other port is the N1MM Logger "Digital" port -
the TxD line drives an open collector transistor connected to the
FSK input on the K3 ACC jack and the RTS line drives an open collector
transistor connected to the PTT line on the K3 ACC jack.

If you are using AFSK A, you can dispense with the "Digital" port
completely and allow N1MM Logger to control PTT using the RTS line
on the k3 RS-232 port (PTT - KEY => rts-OFF or rts,dtr).  In that
case you would connect the computer Line Out to the K3 Line In
and the K3 Line Out to the computer Line In with a pair of audio
cables (or a more capable/advanced interface).

Joe,

I ran into the same question a few weeks ago.

Now i'm using N1MM-MMTY-K3 in AFSK, settled for that because it is easy
and experts say it is a clean transmitting signal.

You cannot use the same COM port for FSK keying as you do for rig control.
Put your FSK/PTT interface on another (unused) COM port.

If you are trying to do FSK keying, you must use a second port. CAT
control and FSK keying are incompatible and must be done on separate ports.

If you are only using the port for PTT control, you can do this with a
single serial port. Just let N1MM handle the PTT chores. Do not check
the "Digital" check box in the Logger's Configurer, and set MMTTY's PTT
port to NONE.

Regardless of whether you are using FSK or AFSK, do not try to use
MMTTY's Radio command port, i.e. set that port to NONE.

You can use the same port for PTT and control but use must use a separate port for FSK keying.

I strongly agree, PROVIDED that you are careful to properly set audio
gains in your sound card and in the radio.

Within the last month or so I posted specific instructions about how to
do that. Search the archives.

Or you can just use AFSK + VOX and not worry about it.
