I have my Micro Band Decoder attached the RS-232 port of the K3 to auto change antennas. Now I would like to hook the K3 to my computer for logging.I don’t think they will share a port as both would be using the same com port if a Y was used.Any suggestions that would be simple to implement or should I just forget about both at same time.
Thanks George wb5xx ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
George,
Whether a Y adapter will work or not depends on your band decoder. Most do not issue any commands on the RS-232 bus, they only listen and respond accordingly. Check with the manufacturer of the decoder to know for certain - if the decoder connects only receivers to the RS-232 lines, it will work fine. With RS-232, many receivers on a signalling line are possible, but if more than one driver is present, things can get confused (the drivers will fight each other). 73, Don W3FPR On 10/7/2011 2:20 PM, george wrote: > I have my Micro Band Decoder attached the RS-232 port of the K3 to auto change antennas. Now I would like to hook the K3 to my computer for logging.I don’t think they will share a port as both would be using the same com port if a Y was used.Any suggestions that would be simple to implement or should I just forget about both at same time. > > Thanks > > George wb5xx > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

The (discontinued) microHAM Band Decoder was designed to be used "in-line" between a computer and transceiver. Connect the computer logging program to the "PC" connection on Band Decoder and leave the RS-232 jack connected to the K3. The Band Decoder will pass the necessary CAT data between the transceiver and logging program. 73, ...
