Before this latest firmware release, I would have said that the K3's VOX is the smoothest and finest I've ever used.
But now, even with the sensitivity at 100 (max), I cannot get it to hold in without speaking rather loudly. Has anyone else noticed this? The antivox setting has no effect. |

I noticed the same thing that I have to speak louder or set the gain up higher for the VOX since the last upgrade. I have just tried the VOX, and I have noticed it as well. I turned the VOX gain up to 100 and it did then in fact TX, but I too had to speak quite loudly to get it to hold. I very rarely use VOX, so it would have been quite some to most likely before I would have noticed that. I am sure this will be repaired soon.

Hi Lee,
I just noticed that too. I now have to set mike gain at 45 and vox gain at 100 and speak above my normal voice so the VOX doesn't trip out with an HC4. By the way, I did not save the former upgrades. Since I didn't do that is there an easy way to go backwards with an upgrade? Subject: RE: [Elecraft] VOX sensitivity problem with new firmware I too noticed a large change in setting up TX power control with the new firmware. Now am running mic at 15, cmp at 5 and vox gain at 70 in order to have smooth operation. txg vce is now .5dB. These settings are greatly different than my previous settings. Had trouble keeping the alc in range with the mic gain and so had to go to the rather high vox gain. This certainly seems to indicate less audio signal is being generated to drive the following circuitry. Seems to be working fine at the new settings but haven't yet been able to have another station tune through my signal to see if I have any whiskers...... Take care 73 Gil K8EAG _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. YES, I had not tried it since the update yesterday, but I find it
very hard to trip the VOX now with Anti-Vox at zero and the Vox gain set WAY high, and it does not want to stay in. What happened to the Vox Wayne and gang? The balance between MIC GAIN needed for good Tx operation and the amount needed for VOX was upset a bit. New code is in test as I write this that works with reasonable settings using all the mics I have here (MH2, cheap electret, Kenwood MC43S, Heil GM-5 with HC-5 and "flat" elements). Also LINE IN from my PC. 73, Lyle KK7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Thanks Lyle. A previous setting of 8 to 10 now takes a setting of 60
to get reasonable operation...and that is without any Anti Vox. Likewise, I have to set the VOX at 100 to get it to operate the transmitter without shouting. In relation, I had to reduce the Mic Gain to 4 from 10-12 on the previous firmware to get the ALC to the recommended maximum of 5 bars. I wonder if this significantly lower gain setting is interacting with the VOX requiring the much higher VOX setting?
