Hi to everybody,
still a bit under shock, because the voices I've heard yesterday from my K3 and for the first time! First I thought it was a signal received, then I understood it was a digital voice coming from my rig. I couldn't understand well what he said (...a femal voice could be more pleasant if announcing a trouble!), but I could listen only the words "mellow" and "blue tango". Hope that they aren't bad words! The voices come more than once, while I was transmitting in RTTY mode at... full power. I though that could be a warning for prolonged high power transmission, but the same happen today at my first attempt to transmit at 50W only and happen only once till now; this time I coudn't hear what the message was. So, I didn't know there was such a messages system on board; was it introduced with FW 4.60? How does it work? Is there any documentation that show that? What could happen to my K3? Shall I throw him in the waste? (I'll give you the exact address of the waste) As you can read, for a non English speaking people, it could be hard to catch immediately an unexpected message; thus a list of all messages and their meaning is highly welcome. Please, let me know what's the matter, because now I'm a little afraid to use my rig, ignoring if that's a trouble and which kind of trouble it is. Many thanks, Piero aka IK2VTJ.

Do you hear it only during transmission on digi modes?
If so, check your computer. It is "talking", not your radio :) |

Hi Piero,
I suspect that you are experiencing some sort of RFI problem. RF in the shack can do strange and surprising things. What other audio devices are in your shack? Computer speakers? Broadcast radio? Try this: Disconnect from all other audio devices in your shack from AC power. Power down your PC. Then use the K3 memories to send RTTY at your full power. If the 'voices' disappear, then you'll have shown that RFI is the problem. If the 'voices' are still present, then it's time for an email to Elecraft support. Also, don't tell friends and neighbors that you are hearing 'voices' ... ;>) - 73 de Mike, K6MKF, W6NAG, NCDXC, Conway Reef 2012, K3-P3 Addict, Maui -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of ik2vtj Sent: Sunday, March 10, 2013 9:44 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Voices from beyond the grave... Hi Piero, I suspect that you are experiencing some sort of RFI problem. RF in the shack can do strange and surprising things. Like switching band or keying TX in a V/UHF transceiver or burning fingers when touching a metal plate on the microphone or...? Don't ask how I imagine that... What other audio devices are in your shack? Computer speakers? Broadcast radio? No, no. Try this: Disconnect from all other audio devices in your shack from AC power. Power down your PC. Then use the K3 memories to send RTTY at your full power. If the 'voices' disappear, then you'll have shown that RFI is the problem. Well I can try also this, but at the moment it didn't happen any more and I'm a little bit afraid to run full power. If the 'voices' are still present, then it's time for an email to Elecraft support. Also, don't tell friends and neighbors that you are hearing 'voices' ... ;>) Oh well, not so bad; they look at me as a 'strange' guy and hate my antennas too! - 73 de Mike, K6MKF, W6NAG, NCDXC, Conway Reef 2012, K3-P3 Addict, Maui Thanks and 73 de IK2VTJ, Piero.
