W1: Can you remote the readout lightbars?

Does anyone know if the W1 wattmeter LED lightbar readouts can be physically and electrically remoted from the rest of the circuit board, e.g. say, cut the board and use wire flat ribbon?  Anyone tried this?  Doing so would make mounting the board in an enclosure so much easier.  Jim Robbins, N1JR
