W2 LED SWR Meter Anomaly

Phil Hystad-3
I just finished putting my W2 SWR LED meter together this morning and everything works hunky-dory.  Everything except for one little mystery.

When I have the Range switched for AUTO mode, the LED display of power and SWR seems to be correct.  However, when I stop transmitting (CW) all LED lights for the SWR display are lit up.  They stay lit up until I TX again and then they behave normally only to stay lit up again after I stopped TX.  All this is in CW mode.

If I have the Range switch for a given power setting, such as 200 watts or 2000 watts (my TX power currently 100 watts) then the W2 seems to operate just fine.  The average and peak hold display functions seem to work as documented and the SWR LED lights stay off when no TX signal present.

Am I seeing normal behavior or abnormal behavior?  I have one sensor (the 2000 watt version) and currently there is no PC hookup so only power and sensor cable plugged into the back.

Thanks for any help, clarification, comments...

I have experienced some anomalies like this with my two W2's.

Try moving the sensor cable around when you are not TXing.  I have
found that the cables supplied will (if close other cables in the
shack) cause this behavior.

Gary at Elecraft Tech help suggested that I substitute a CAT5 cable
for the supplied one and that solved the problem in my shack.

Perhaps the Aptos guys will start shipping CAT 5 cables with the W2's
in the future...
