W2: Should my Hf-54mhz W2 be able to read my Elecraft XV50?

My Elecraft W2 nicely reads the K3 when screed into the output connector
of the K3.

However, when I attach the W2 to the back of the Elecraft XV50, which is
currently delivering about 7 watts out according to the LED.s, then
there is no reading on the W2 though the Range and Sensor LED's are lit.
