Hello all,
I'm back from my tour and I had a real blast! I operated from four
lighthouses and one lightship in four days. The weather and band
conditions were terrible, but my equipment played great. The guys from
the Overfalls Lightship even told me to come back anytime. They enjoyed
the operation too.
I had to tie-down the VBWFPA to the second story railing on the ship in
a howling wind and heavy rain on Saturday.
I worked more ops than I thought I would for the poor band conditions. I
fact on 40m Sunday night from the Overfalls Lightship, I had mini
pileups on 40m!
On Monday afternoon I hiked about a half mile up to the Great Dune in
Cape Henlopen Park in Delaware close to the Historic Cape Henlopen
Lighthouse Spot. I set up my K2 @ 13W into my VBWFPA and called CQ on
20m.
I had to log my hand because no computer in backpack. I filled more than
a page with QSOs with terrible band conditions, but the rig and antenna
worked fine. In fact the guys running amps with beams on 20M said I was
as almost as strong as them! They couldn't believe I was running only
13w. I took many pictures of the places I operated from so look for them
later etc.
Here's where I operated from:
7/23-Friday : Delaware Breakwater & Harbor of Refuse Lighthouses
7/24-Saturday: OverFalls Lightship
7/25-Sunday : Fenwick Island Lighthouse & Overfalls Lightship
7/26-Monday : Historic Cape Henlopen Lighthouse
To all who worked me - a big THANK YOU!
1. Send a SASE for a photo qsl card of the lighthouse and/or lightship.
2. For those of you who worked me at all locations, I will send out a
special award to those ops. It will be a nice one!
To all who tried to work me, but couldn't - Thank YOU - Maybe next time!
Isn't this hobby of ours just great.
Keep the Flame Baby!
