WB3AAL 900th QSO from the Appalachian Trail

WB3AAL
Hello,

19 January 2008 was a very good day. I got to my operating location around
15:45 UTC.

The area was covered with snow and the ground frozen solid. I had a very
hard time to drive the 2 1/2 foot ground rod into the soil to mount my BWV
(Black Widow Vertical.) The weather started out at 38'F or 3'C and then
dropped down to 32'F or 0'C. The weather was over cast most of the time with
5 to 10 MPH winds. It did start to flurry a little but it stopped as quickly
as it started.

I started calling CQ with my Elecraft K1 @ 5 watts on 7.033 MHz. I follow my
intended operating plans as posted in a previous e-mail. I did move over to
15m at 19:00 UTC to look for 2 South American stations that wanted to work
me. Unfortunately 15 meters was dead but I still called CQ for 15 minutes,
You never know who is listening.

I made a total of 21 QSO's on Saturday

The following is my log from 19 Jan. 2008:

Only 99 more QSO's to go!!

I had a Great day out on the AT. I seen a couple of black squirrels and a
lot of wood peckers. Sometime the wood peckers were so loud I had to turn up
my audio on the K1.

My next trip out will be on 2 Feb 2008 for the FYBO contest.

Thanks to all those who worked me over the years and to those that the
conditions prevented us from making a QSO. I have no plans on stopping this
adventure.

72 and Thanks,
