Hello,
19 January 2008 was a very good day. I got to my operating location around 15:45 UTC. The area was covered with snow and the ground frozen solid. I had a very hard time to drive the 2 1/2 foot ground rod into the soil to mount my BWV (Black Widow Vertical.) The weather started out at 38'F or 3'C and then dropped down to 32'F or 0'C. The weather was over cast most of the time with 5 to 10 MPH winds. It did start to flurry a little but it stopped as quickly as it started. I started calling CQ with my Elecraft K1 @ 5 watts on 7.033 MHz. I follow my intended operating plans as posted in a previous e-mail. I did move over to 15m at 19:00 UTC to look for 2 South American stations that wanted to work me. Unfortunately 15 meters was dead but I still called CQ for 15 minutes, You never know who is listening. I made a total of 21 QSO's on Saturday The following is my log from 19 Jan. 2008: QSO# Call Name Band QTH 881 N8XX Hank 40m MI 882 K1ESE John 40m ME 883 NV1B Andrew 40m ME 884 W4FOA Tony 40m GA 885 AB4PP JohnPaul 40m NC 886 NZ8J Tim 40m OH 887 VE3WMB Mike 40m Ontario 888 NU7T Steve 20m NV 889 KM3D Harry 20m PA 890 N0TU Steve 20m CO 891 W0RW Paul 20m CO 892 AK7D Fred 20m OR 18:06 UTC 893 K4PTT Duane 30m GA 894 W3EEK/4 Carl 30m FL 895 KB3QEH Ed 20m PA on the AT 896 WA0QZK Jack 40m IN 897 VE3SO Peter 40m Ontario 898 K1DCI Earl 40m NH 899 N8WS Bill 40m OH 900 W3EEK/4 Carl 40m FL My 900th QSO from the Appalachian Trail since march 2000. 901 VA3SIE Martin 40m Ontario Only 99 more QSO's to go!! I had a Great day out on the AT. I seen a couple of black squirrels and a lot of wood peckers. Sometime the wood peckers were so loud I had to turn up my audio on the K1. My next trip out will be on 2 Feb 2008 for the FYBO contest. Thanks to all those who worked me over the years and to those that the conditions prevented us from making a QSO. I have no plans on stopping this adventure. 72 and Thanks, Ron Polityka WB3AAL www.wb3aal.com www.n3epa.org/ K1 - SN 01011 K2 - SN 01392 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
