I taught I should share my experience here on the reflector.
I have always thaught that my SSB quality was more than good enough on my K2
3829.
So I was quite happy with things. 2,2Khz BW KSB2.
Resent testing with UA9CDC Igor to help perfecting his rig made me think
about upgrading my KSB2.
So I ordered the SSBcap modkit and keymodkit along with K1backlightkit.
The keymodkit is for everyone else to benefit from and with the KPA100 I
installed it.
Then I decided to go for 2,6Khz modkit for SSB.
My Xtales is of new type and my upper bfofreq is well on the safeside.
What a difference! WOW. Ritcher rx audio and no compromises between high or
lows on tx.
I now do get reports that are just as good as every one else.
One guy said I sounded like one ham here that runs mixboards with a
studiomic.
Very good in other words.
It also got better talkpower "punch".
The microphone in use here is the Elecraft MH2. (First edition).
So you can understand I'm happy now and a little proud as well.

I also installed the backlight to my K1.
A fun rig got a lot more funnier.
This is a "must have".
So for all of you who wonder if the KSB2 BW upgrade is any good?
It sertainly is!
Download the modkit manual and check your Xtales on the KSB2. Order new ones
if they are old ones.
Check your upper bfo frequency.
If possible make the 2,6Khz uppgrade.
Use spectrogram to finetune your filters. FL2 opt1 is fine with rolloff att
300hz on both USB and LSB and both RTTY and RTTY-R.
Set FL1 opt1 to a rolloff att 400hz to start with and check your tx audio.
Make fine adjustments if necessary. (Personal taste)
Another hint!
Don't try to save the olds caps , split them and remove one leg at the time.
Saves your board.
Again! Wow! This K2 really shines now.
