Walk A Mile In Elecraft's Shoes First

Mark, KJ7BS
Elecraft is not keeping to their stated schedule ...

My K3 did not ship when I was told it would ...

Elecraft doing a bad job with the K3 project ...

Elecraft is not communicating status enough ...

PLEASE!

Until you have walked in Elecraft's shoes, keep your mouths shut.  I dare say most if not all the complainers have never run a small manufacturing business and developew and released new products.  I have, internationally, and I can tell you it is no cake walk.  There are so many things to worry about, regulatory issues, shipping issues, supplier issues, personnel issues, marketing issues, competitor issues, manufacturing issues, etc., etc., etc.  Elecraft is doing the very best it can given the circumstances.

How much time do you want Elecraft to spend communicating status to you?  Remember, every minute spend responding you complaints, shipping questions, "where am I on the list"  questions, etc. is a minute not spent doing what is really important, building and shipping products.  Those of you who want manufacturing statuses, do you really want to know production was slow today because Marybeth Sue called in sick today because her monthly cramps were so bad she could not walk, or that Bubbajoe is out for 2 weeks to be with his wife and new born baby, or that the toilet overflowed and destroyed the printed assembly instructions and the printed business records?

Do you get consant hand-holding from Ford Motor Comany, Sony, DirecTV, Tyson Foods, your bank, your local police?  NO, but you do expect it from a much smaller company like Elecraft.  Elecraft, being a smaller company can focus more of its attention on customer service in normal day-to-day business activities.  Elecraft's business activities are anything but normal.  They are dealing with ramp up, production, and distribution of the hottest transceiver on the market, working on 800 and 1500 watt solid state no-tune amplifiers, and other yet unknown projects.

So you sold your rigs in anticipation of taking delivery of your new K3.  Did Elecraft instruct you to do so?  No.  YOU sold it based on the information provided you by Elecraft, based on the delivery schedule they calculated based on all the information they had at the time from suppliers and regulators.  It is lame to try to blame Elecraft for a decision you made to sell your rigs, afterall you made the decision.

Those of you planning on taking the K3 on a DXpedition should have had a plan B.  If not, I certinly would not be going on your DXpedtition.

Look at all the hastle given to Elecraft and ask yourselves why don't more people put their reputations, finances, homes, families, and lives on the line to start a small business?

If I have to tell you the answer, here's your sign.

Let Elecraft do what it does best, design, produce and distribute the finest amateur radios in this niche hobby.

Of the four above, one may not be true, while the other three are a matter of
fact.
