Way off topic, but fun

N3PSJ-2
A new digital mode that can be sent and received without a computer.  You
just have to learn it.

Only if you consider "patented in 1903" to be "new."  It was one of the
methods used to key an arc converter for CW.

Why only two tones? If we use an 8-tones "multi-FSK", we can get more bandwidth. Here is an example of such a code (or in fact language) that is meant to be human-readable:

This is what inspired the alien musical language in the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", together with the musical hand signals of John Curwen:

Well, if we weren't off topic before, we certainly are now :-)

Re: Way off topic, but fun

Well, I guess it is new to me.  I did not know it was used so long ago.

Why not 8 tones....because I have trouble decoding 2 in my head.

I hope everyone enjoyed the diversion.   I figured that this group, being a
good number of hard core CW operators, would appreciate it.   I initially
thought of two tones because I was thinking about how you could squeeze a
little more speed out of CW by using two dots with different tones instead
of a dot and a dash.  I admit it is hard to get your brain to recognize it,
but after you listen to it for a while it gets easier.

I will close the topic before Eric closes it for me.
