Does anyone use the wisper WSPR software with their K3. It looks kind of interesting to me to use as a way to look at what your antenna may be doing on different bands. http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/index.html Don KD8NNU ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Hi Don,
I use WSPR sometimes when propagation is doubtful to see if it improves or not. Works great on this K3. There is also a web page that displays all WSPR receiving stations and what stations they've copied: http://wsprnet.org/drupal/wsprnet/map. You can set the band your interested in, and center the map on your own lat / long. Very cool site! I like 30m WSPR the best. YMMV. Note: Running very low TX power levels like 2W is common with WSPR. That's the 'WS' part! I run 5W or less at all times. 73, matt W6NIA On Sun, 29 May 2011 12:06:31 -0400 (EDT), you wrote: > >Does anyone use the wisper WSPR software with their K3. > >It looks kind of interesting to me to use as a way to look at what your >antenna may be doing on different bands. > >http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/index.html > > >Don >KD8NNU >______________________________________________________________ >Elecraft mailing list >Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft >Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm >Post: mailto:[hidden email] > >This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net >Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Don,
My K3 is currently running WSPR at 1 watt on 20 meters through a DX-CC multiband dipole in a third story attic. You can see the signal reports here: http://wsprnet.org/drupal/wsprnet/map (To see my current results, set the callsign to N7ZO, band to 20M, and period to last 24 hours.) Even when the bands seem to be dead, I am always amazed how well the signal is still getting around the world. Gents
Would someone who is using the WSPR software share how they have the setup configured for the K3. I can not get it to go to TX. I have something wrong with either the CAT or PTT settings. For some reason I can not get it to work right. I tried to copy setting from HRD but no dice with this software. These are the settings I have used...
To run WSJT on K3 with SignaLinkUSB: (The soundcard settings that FLDIGI takes care of automatically, when set up, must be done MANUALLY in WSJT. Otherwise, the setup is the same.) 1.K3 in “TX DATA” 2.K3 at 50.260 (for six meter operation) 3.K3 with “CONFIG” “LINE OUT” ~ 20. This depends on Digital Gain Setting on SpecJT (lower right-hand side). 4.SignaLink-USB ON 5.PC “Playback Devices” (right-click on speaker mini-icon) must have “Speakers USB Audio Codec” as “Default Device” 6.PC “Recording Devices” must have “Microphone USB Audio Codec” as “Default Device” (Items 5 and 6 are the soundcard settings, obviously) John Ragle -- W1ZI ===== On 5/29/2011 8:17 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > Would someone who is using the WSPR software share how they have the > setup configured for the K3. > > I can not get it to go to TX. In case you don't: No interface is necessary, and things are simpler if you don't use one. Just connect line out on the back of the K3 to mic in, and line in to speaker out. Once you get it receiving, it's time to transmit. The first thing is to get PTT to work, which apparently is where you are stuck. In WSPR, set PTT method to DTR. Set PTT port to the Com port that you are using to connect the K3 to your computer. Ignore CAT for the moment. Save the setup and put WSPR into idle. Set the transmit slider to 5%; this will make test transmissions 5 seconds long. Put the K3 in USB mode, and press Tune. The K3 should go into transmit. If not, the DTR line is not getting to the K3 for whatever reason. If it doesn't work, at least you know where the problem lies. In my case, the USB/serial port adapter I'm using delivers signals over DTR and RTS. Hopefully, yours will as well. Once you have PTT working, go back and set up CAT. The only thing CAT does with WSPR is set the K3's frequency correctly in response to a band change on the WSPR console. This is easy to test, and if it doesn't work, no harm: just set the frequency by hand to the value shown in the Dial: box. When you get to this point, the only thing remaining is to set levels. Set the computer's Mic level for 0 db received noise when the green Receiving light is on, and the computer's Speaker level so that ALC shows 3-4 bars but never 5. You will probably have to set the K3's Configure>Line In to a low number, maybe 003 or so. HI Group,
I have it up and running. I am amaized on how far your signal can be heard with only 1 watt WOW. Now I have to work on that JP65 mode. I have been using WSPR, primarily on the 600m band (495.9 KHz), as
part of the ARRL 600m Experimental Group (WD2XSH). http://500kc.com/ The furthest my 4.15w ERP signal was detected was 2893 miles. I also have tried it a little on 6m. I have used its brother, JT-65, extensively on 144-eme. WSPR gives you a snapshot of propagation on any band. Go to http://wsprnet.org/drupal/ to view this. 73, Ed - KL7UW, WD2XSH/45 ====================================== BP40IQ 500 KHz - 10-GHz www.kl7uw.com EME: 50-1.1kw?, 144-1.4kw, 432-100w, 1296-testing*, 3400-? Hi Stan,
You can do it. I'm probably older than you (72) -- it just takes patience and some fiddling. The first thing to do is to plug in those patch cords. In fact, let's start with just one. Plug it into the Lin Out on the back of the K3, and the Mic jack on your computer. Then bring up WSPR. Set the "Transmit %" slider to 0% so that it won't try to transmit. Then click the "Setup" menu at the top, and open Station Parameters. Put in your call and your grid square (you can find it out on QRZ.com if you don't know it. Look up your call, then click "details"). Then click the drop-down menu for "Audio In" and select Microphone. Make sure your computer's clock is accurate to within 1 second. There are various ways to do this, but for the moment I'll assume you have that figured out. Set your receiver on 14095.6, USB, and on WSPR select Band>20M. Now make sure the "Idle" box is not clicked, and wait for the beginning of an even-numbered minute. Pretty soon you'll see a green box at lower right saying "Receiving," and the lower left box will say "Rx Noise XX DB". On the K3, adjust Config > Line Out to bring the Rx noise to somewhere near 0 DB. To fine-tune the audio in, look on the Task Bar for the little picture of the speaker (lower right, next to the time & date). Right-click that icon, and a menu will appear. Select "Recording Devices." A menu will pop up. Double-click Microphone, and then select the Levels tab. A slider will appear, which you can adjust to get the Rx Noise to (more or less) 0 DB. Now go get some coffee and let WSPR run in receive mode for a while. If your system clock is accurate, you'll see callsigns appear in the white box. You're receiving!! Once you get to that point, email me and we'll try to get you transmitting. Good luck & 73, Tony KT0NY ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
