Hi-
which rig to buy for a new operator, well after 52 years of experience, if I were to begin again, and had the money for a new rig I would definately buy American, and having tried the Flex 1500 and Flex 3000 and have a K2 and K3 and Orion Ii and have tried a TenTec Eagle. That is where my hard earned dollars would go. Simple to use, complete with tuner, computer connectivity, and enough power to get out even if the first few antennas you build aren't quite perfect.. my 2 cents. 73 de Dave, K1OPQ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Get the K3. Get it with the options that fit your budget. I'm now at
87 confirms on LOTW toward DXCC CW with a K3 @5W into wire antennas in a HOA area. Most of that just this year as I got really going during ARRL CW DX. My point is it's a great rig and you can start out with what you can afford now and work your way up while having more than the legal limit of fun. You won't outgrow it. Very easy to add options when you want. Have fun Jim ab3cv ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

There was a interesting discussion on one of the Ten-Tec lists a few
months ago, when the Eagle was the new kid on the block. The question was, whether to buy an Eagle, K3 or a TS-590S. One person even did an A/B/C comparison of the three. I was at this crossroads at the time. The TS-590S came off the table for consideration right away. Not that I didn't think it was a worthy competitor. I wanted to buy American and both Ten-Tec and Elecraft have excellent support. I bought the Eagle and am having fun with it. In retrospect, though, I have to give credit to Elecraft for their modular design, which dates back to the K2. Start with a very basic kit and add on options as desired at a later date. Having just sold the condo, I have money burning a hole in my pocket. Although I have a K1, K2 and a KX3 on order, I'm tempted to buy a K3. Back in September I bought the Flex-1500 and haven't had adequate time to enjoy it, due to illness and the eventual death of a close family member. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 4/3/2012 11:39 AM, Bob K6UJ wrote: > Hi Dave, > > If you could have only one of those radios you mentioned which one would it be ? > > Bob > K6UJ > > > > On Apr 3, 2012, at 11:21 AM, David Perrin wrote: > >> Hi- >> which rig to buy for a new operator, well after 52 years of experience, if I were to begin again, and had the money for a new rig I would definately buy American, and having tried the Flex 1500 and Flex 3000 and have a K2 and K3 and Orion Ii and have tried a TenTec Eagle.
