Wideband FM?

Fred (FL)
I don't understand fully the mode "wideband FM"?

At one point, there was a 2 meter repeater in
northern Baltimore County, which had a link
to 10 meters - back in the 90's.  I think the
10 meter portion (link), operated in Wideband FM
mode?  I may have this mixed up - but I've always
hoped someone would explain when/where WIDEBAND FM
is used in ham bands?

And, does the K3 support any of this in
its FM mode?
