Wild QRP at Midnight

W0rw
The 20 Meter contest has bunches of EU stations coming in so i took my KX1
out in the backyard to try for a few.
i was outside walking around at midnight and i worked YL2KO (Latvia) on 14060.
This was my first EU contact on 20 whilst being peripatetic mobile.
i had my 8 foot whip and a drag wire laying on the grass.
As i was calling another station i saw a big black hulk in my drive way.
i almost dropped the KX1 as i dashed for the door, it slammed locking me
outside
with a big Black Bear, 10 feet away.
He heard my clanking capacity hat and ran the other way...woosh !!!
The adrenaline of working Latvia is nothing compared to having a Bear walk up
on you while you are working DX.
i think i will leave the midnight (Zombie) operation for winter time.
Just life in the city...

Re: Wild QRP at Midnight

DYARNES
Like Paul, I found 20 meters last night to be absolutely fabulous.
Actually, it's been very good at night off and on for the last several  weeks.  With
my K2 at 5 watts, and just an R7 vertical, I worked one  European after
another, usually on the first call and with no repeats.  If  you haven't been
checking 20 meters after the sun goes down lately, you are  really missing it.  Of
course, contests always bring DX out of the  woodwork, but they way things have
been lately I think you could almost work DX  with a wet piece of string!
Check it out!
