Would be nice if LINE IN kept it's settings.

Just a comment.  If you use the line in and change the compression to be different than for the mic, when you switch back to mic, the compression is set to that of line-in.  It would be nice if the compression values were linked to the setting of the mic.

This is also true when switching between the front and rear mic connections, something I do all the time. I keep my hand mic connected on the front and my headset on the back. This is my only  nit-pic on my K3!
