XG2 Calibration Question

larmar
I was wondering how much of a difference calibrating the K3 using the XG2 vs the default factory calibration would have on performance?  For those who have used the signal generator, did you see any noticable improvement in overall receiver performance?  Trying to decide whether the investment would be worth it.

Thanks,

Larry

Re: XG2 Calibration Question

K2QI
I've only used the XG2 to calibrate the K3's S-meter.

No actual receiver improvements other than a slightly more accurate meter
reading.

The same experience here as James.  In my case the K3 was already pretty
accurate.  I wouldn't be without the XG2 though, it's good to have a source
of known power.

An external source like the XG1/XG2 is most useful for doing the RF Gain Calibration routine in the K3 Utility.  S-Meter Cal is also nice but really doesn't affect performance other than S-Meter accuracy.

I find the factory default is pretty good enough.

主題: [Elecraft] XG2 Calibration Question

I was wondering how much of a difference calibrating the K3 using the XG2 vs
the default factory calibration would have on performance?  For those who
have used the signal generator, did you see any noticable improvement in
overall receiver performance?  Trying to decide whether the investment would
be worth it.

Thanks,

Larry,

I did the recalibration with the XG-2. Did not notice any change. And if
there were any, I am not able to measure that accurate.

Anyway, I use the XG2 quite a lot for some experiments with transformers
etc and filters. I Use the K3 (measuring dBV) as a level meter. Great
combination.
