XG3 Tones?

qrv@kd4e.com
In the XG3 is a tone of some sort generated in CW or RTTY mode
that might be toggled-on for use in signal tracing?

Also, using a script or a hardware tap, could the signal be PM'd
for a type of FM?

Thanks!

Re: XG3 Tones?

Hi David,

The XG3 generates a square wave RF signal and has no internal audio tone generator.  RTTY is accomplished through frequency shift keying (FSK) which does not require a modulation 'tone'.   At one time I investigated the possibility of doing FM in the XG3 but the problem is in the phase lock time within the frequency synthesizer chip we are using.  It takes too long to achieve lock for FM or PM.

Paul
