Question on the xtal filters used on rx.
I have the SSB board installed when in CW mode. what set of filters is the receiver using ? the ones on the main board or the SSB board ? this is for the K2 radio Perry WA8THK PERRY WA8THK FP#582 GAINES, MICHIGAN -USA http://www.usol.com/~wa8thk/WA8THK.htm __________________________________________ Yahoo! Perry,
The fixed bandwidth filter on the KSB2 option is identified as OP1, OP2, OP3, OP4 or OP5 - all other filters are identified by a numerical value representing the filter width and use the variable bandpass filter on the RF Board. Note that the numerical value may not be the actual bandwidth, it is an approximation, but I usually find the actual width to be more narrow than the number if the filter is narrow, but for some reason, the extremely wide filter widths are actually wider than indicated - for instance, a 2.00 filter may actually be 2.5kHz wide while a 0.700 filter may be only 500 Hz wide. Use Specrogram or some other means to measure the actual filter width if it is important to you. To see which filter is currently in use, press the XFIL and AGC buttons together. Of course, each mode has its own set of filters, so you must cycle through each mode and each of the 4 filters for that mode to see the entire set. Easier if you want to see all of them - enter the menu CAL FIL and cycle through the filters in the menu (no need to insert the frequency probe unless you intend to change the filters). 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Question on the xtal filters used on rx. > I have the SSB board installed > when in CW mode. what set of filters is the receiver > using ? > the ones on the main board or the SSB board ? > this is for the K2 radio > Perry WA8THK > > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Thanks Don and others for the email on the filters for ssb and cw Got it clear now as to how it works op1 is SSB tx and rx any others (FL2 FL3 FL4) are for receive on the main board, and the tx goes to the op1 for tx Got it .. Now that I have had the rig for a year or so. and installed the Dsp at Christmas time its fun to go back over it and see just how it works Very nice radio Next year I may ask Santa for the 100w board (not that its needed , but to have something to build) Perry WA8THK > > > > > > PERRY WA8THK FP#582 GAINES, MICHIGAN -USA http://www.usol.com/~wa8thk/WA8THK.htm __________________________________________ Yahoo! Perry,
One clarification - the BFO used for transmit is always the one associated with FL1 for whatever mode you are set for - and on SSB the OPx filter is in-line for transmit (to do its sideband 'stripping task'), so for proper SSB operation, you must have the SSB FL1 set to OPx. On CW, the transmit signal does not pass through any of the filters, but the BFO frequency setting for the FL1 CW filter determines the actual signal frequency. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > Thanks Don > and others for the email > on the filters for ssb and cw > > Got it clear now as to how it works > > op1 is SSB tx and rx > > any others (FL2 FL3 FL4) are for receive on the > main board, and the tx goes to the op1 for tx > Got it .. > > Now that I have had the rig for a year or so. and > installed the Dsp at Christmas time > its fun to go back over it and see just how it works > > Very nice radio > > Next year I may ask Santa for the 100w board > (not that its needed , but to have something to build) > > > Perry > WA8THK > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > PERRY WA8THK FP#582 > GAINES, MICHIGAN -USA > http://www.usol.com/~wa8thk/WA8THK.htm > > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
