This is a stupid question, I am sure.
I have a loaded K2, and wanted to add more, so I’ve been trying to figure out what an XV Transverter (144) is for. I have looked on Elecrafts site for a good description of what I can do with an XV Transverter, but have not found it. I have looked for info in the List Archives, in YouTube, and the XV Transverter manuals. Please respond with information on the use of these. Santa might have to order me one, if I can figure out what I would do with it. Thank you and 73, Steve - KI4EZL ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
A XV 144 transverter is a radio device that can transmit and receive on
144 MHz using 28 MHz on your radio. Steve -
I have the XV144, XV222, and XV432 in my shack on a K3. Basically, a transverter allows you to use your radio on a band that's not already built in to the radio. For example, the XV144 lets you use your HF radio on the 144MHz (2 meter) band. The transverter converts the received 2m signal into a signal on the 10M band so your K2 can receive it. On transmit, it converts a low-level 10m signal to a 2m signal, amplifies it, and sends it to the antenna. The XV transverters are great if you want to do SSB and CW on the VHF and UHF bands. Does that help? They also work well with 2M FM repeaters if you have an FM
capable base radio. (I'm not sure the K2 qualifies. FM works well with my K3.) Ed, KL7UW may want to step in an discuss EME and other VHF/UHF/SHF DXing. 73 Bill AE6JV On 12/10/19 at 9:53 PM, [hidden email] (Dave Fugleberg) wrote: >The XV transverters are great if you want to do SSB and CW on the VHF and >UHF bands. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Frantz | The first thing you need when | Periwinkle (408)356-8506 | using a perimeter defense is a | 16345 Englewood Ave www.pwpconsult.com | perimeter. | Los Gatos, CA 95032 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Super information. All together, these replies have answered my questions. I also now know that it could talk to the local repeater if I used the correct radio with it.
Thanks folks & 73, Steve - KI4EZL ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

With decent FM talkies and mobile rigs common and inexpensive, the only good reason for using a transverter on an Elecraft HF rig is for experimentation. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Not true Jim, a XV144 & 432 + a modified XV50 (to 70) lets me use the K3 for those bands and it’s a darn site better than a number of other commercial rigs on those bands.
Plus with limited shack space, it’s all in one rig. 73 de David, M0XDF (K3 #174, P3 #108) -- Not all those that wander are lost. -J.R.R. But it's NOT one rig, it's four, counting those three transverters, and the combined cost of the 2M and 432 transverters is greater than the cost of a fine FM rig, which includes all of the PL tones, memories, and other functions useful for repeater operation. From where I sit, those transverters are great for modes other than FM on these bands. I own an XV144, and that's how I've used it. I use Kenwood FM rigs (mobile, base, and talkie) for this mode on VHF and UHF. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
