XV144 and linear amplifier

Samir Popaja-2
Hello,

I'm using XV144 with Kenwood TS-850S(will be replaced with K3). If I want to
use it with linear amplifier, do I really need Sequence Controller (a´la
http://www.ssb.de/amateur/pdf/dcw2400e.pdf)? I do NOT use preamplifier, no
need for it.

Re: XV144 and linear amplifier

Samir,

The only valid reason I know of to use a sequencer is to protect
preamplifiers and other devices that could be damaged by the onset of
RF.  Another common reason is to allow time for a slow amplifier relay
to switch so you do not cause arcing at the amplifier contacts - I do
not consider that a valid reason becuase the real solution is to replace
the map relay with a faster one.

So, you may not need a sequencer, but consider the amplifier relay speed
in making your decision.

The XV144 also provides sequencing of the PTT versus RF output. This is
described in the XV144 manual.
