Good morning,

I am in the final stages of building my K2.  Previously I have also built both a
K1 and a KX1.  The best general advice that I can offer to you is to read the
assembly instructions very carefully.  Elecraft has done a very good job
producing accurate and detailed instructions which, if carefully followed,
should produce good results for you.  I usually read through the next page or
two of instructions before going back and actually doing the step-by-step work.
Their instructions are usually very clear but sometimes I have had to read one a
couple of times before actually understanding what I was supposed to do.

Even with careful reading of the instructions you might still be confused
sometimes.  I would suggest that you then post a question and not try to
continue on with the work until you get your question answered.

By the way, you have not actually been sending your questions to Elecraft.  You
have been posting them to an email list that is made up of owners of Elecraft
products.  It is an excellent source for help because there is probably someone
on the list who has experienced about every issue that you are likely to face.
The Elecraft company can also offer email help at [hidden email].

Now, regarding your specific question...  I think that I understand what
happened with your green filter.  The adhesive is more of a tacky goo that can
accidentally be peeled off of the green plastic.  On mine it started to come off
with the paper but I caught it in time.  Under your circumstances I think that
what you did with the glue will probably work OK.

One last suggestion.  It would be nice to have you include your name and
callsign in your postings to the email list.  Most of the people on the list are
on a first name basis and it just keeps everything sounding more friendly.

Good luck with your K2.

Paul - N8XMS

Re: Your K2 Questions

That's a good point, which I'll second. When I was building my K2, I didn't have issues severe enough that I had to use elecraft support (mostly just problems with my 6th grade education that Don took care of right away), but with my K3 I have used elecraft support for one or two things (email). They're pretty responsive, usually getting back to you on the same day. They're really the place to go if you're in a build-stopping jam or have a strange question and really need the opinion of Elecraft themselves (i.e. my problem with the tie wrap around the TCXO in my K3).

And yes by all means if you don't understand something major, do stop until you've either posted a question here or to elecraft. I.e. when I was doing my K2 build, I got stuck on a question about how to wind the transformers (the first one for the VFO). I stopped right there after winding it and posted a question here. Don cleared me up on it and then I was on my way. But if not, I'd have gone to elecraft support next if I had to....

Gud luck es 73,
