advice on a rig

Tobyp
Susan,  someone else mentioned the Ten Tec Omni 7.   I recently used one of these for several weeks and found it a refreshingly simply rig to operate.  QSK cw is really great and the internal keyer is about as good as the one in the K3.

There appear to be no major bugs or problems with this rig like I found with the Orion 2,  and if you are looking for a simple rig for casual operation then,  you will love the Omni 7.

I would not think the Omni 7 is a contest radio,  but found the SSB filtering in the Omni to have sharper skirts than the filtering in my Icom 7700.  CW filtering seemed to be not as good as my 7700.   This is all subjective and just my observations.

Good luck with your choice!

Re: advice on a rig

Gary, W7TEA
Susan, I whole heartedly agree with Toby.  The Omni VII is a fine rig.  If you're operating CW, the optional filters are a must IMHO.  They act as much as band pass filters as "distributed roofing filters."

Have fun, Gary W7TEA
