Good Evening,
Twenty meters was pretty noisy this evening. This was not helpful. I know I lost a few of you because I could hear below the noise but not well enough to copy characters. I am sorry. Forty meters was much more accessible to contacts. (This was as far as I got before my system froze. The problem was caused by a few emails sent to me which had attachments of 8 and 16 MB in length. Since I cannot beg, buy, nor borrow broadband access in this part of Oregon I am using a dial-up account. Thanks to Verizon I can only achieve half the speed of a 56k connection. Thus large files take hours to download.) This week has been hectic and proves to be even more so as it progresses. If any of you have perfected a machine to clone a person I would appreciate your services. I figure three of me may be able to accomplish all I need to do. On Sunday I need to be three different places at the same time. This will be quite a feat! Hopefully I can work part time at each location. Which brings up another topic: I will be gone on Sunday the 29th of April. If any of you would like to start the nets and keep notes I will write the report when I get back to Oregon. Otherwise I will have to cancel them for my trip. Considering the band condition on 20 meters it is very heartening to have so many. This Sunday I hope to work with folks in the local ARES group on setting up D Star radios. These are digital FM which can simultaneously pass digital packet messages. I am getting some of the software setup on my laptop computer and will set up the IP addresses for their network. This is too much like a "busman's holiday" for me. Mixing radio and computers has been something I've tried to avoid. Email is as close as I have come to my day job since this is suppposed to be a relaxing hobby. Even the casual contesting I've done has been paper logged to keep within my 'rules'. Seems like I am being drawn toward the dark side because of my computer skills ;) Hmmm... how to avoid this slippery slope? However, I hope to be back in time for the Sunday nets. If you don't hear me right off the bat it means I am still driving up the mountain from Hillsboro. I will be there eventually. Have a good time without me because the week after that I will be far away in the Midwest. Oh, I forgot, on Saturday I will be teaching the local ARES group from the material I've gathered and created on emergency communications. My weekend will be filled with amateur radio activity. I am trying to train another instructor so I can develop another course for the group on some other topics. Once I create the material I can hand it off to future instructors. Keeps me from getting bored :) Remember the cloning machine; I could surely use it! 73, Kevin.
