cruise line

Gary Harrison
QCWA has hosted 3 cruises on Holland American and found them to be very
helpful with radio setup.  They even provided 120 vac to the deck for us
on our second and third cruises.  Our cruises have been open to anyone
especially hams and QCWA members.  If you work W2MM or operate it from
the deck of the ship you can receive a certificate.

Gary Harrison, K0BC
QCWA Director

It may be that ships having radio rooms are now under the purview of the
recreation director. If you know of any, please publish the names of any
radio friendly cruise lines so I can book them next time.

Hi Bill,

I have to admit that I did not have much to do with the QCWA cruises.  I
was President of QCWA when the first cruise occurred in 2001.  That
cruise involved 250 people on the Westerdam.  We set up stations on a
back deck.  Carolyn, WB0OUM and I experienced our first cruise at that
time!  I do know that the QCWA arrangements were made by Larry McCalvy,
WA9JMO.  He worked with Holland America and the ship's Captain to get
permission to operate on board.  I think there was a QRP station
operated from a state room during the cruise.  We have had 3 cruises and
lots of good experiences with Holland America.  The ship even provide
assistance in setting up the equipment.

More info if desired off the reflector.

Gary Harrison, K0BC
QCWA Director

Royal Caribbean specifically forbids the use of ham radio on their cruises. Next time ( if there is a next time) (I'd rather have ordered the KPA500), I pick the cruise line instead of the XYL.

Careful, you are on thin ice. You don't let her read your e-mails do you?
