After reviewing the archives, I found little to help me hook up the
SL 1 + interface to the K2 My mic connector is configured for the Heil Pro Set K2 Since is has a mono mini-phone jack for PTT, I figured I could use that line to the interface. I still need >6VDC to power the interface but the rating of voltage from the mic connector is 5 VDC ( when I measure it, it more like 3 VDC). There are a number of jumper configurations within the SL 1+ but the K2 isn't listed. If anyone with experience with this interface would like to help out, I would greatly appreciate. (the company doesn't answer emails...only phone calls, which are difficult for me to do at work) Thanks! John,
Plan to use a separate power supply for the interface. The 5 volt line at the mic jack is only intended to provide bias for an electret mic element (a non-critical application in most cases). The 5 volt supply from the K2 can contain a lot of digital noise since it also powers the digital circuits for the front panel, and you don't want that coupled into your mic AF signal line. Provide your interface with a clean source of DC and it should be happy. Many 9 volt wall wart supplies are available. If your house is anything like mine, there are such supplies laying around from defunct telephones, and other consumer devices. You need to connect the mic PTT either in series with the interface PTT or in parallel with it. The ideal interface would provide switching from the Mic to the soundcard, you will have to look at the provisions of your interface, many allow you to plug the mic into the interface and the interface goes to the transceiver mic connector. What wiring you use will depend on how you have the K2 microphone configuration header plugged. With the Proset-K2, you likely have the header jumpered straight across and the 5.6k resistor between pins 1 and 6 of the mic jack. That bias resistor may or may not interfere with your interface operation (hopefully the manufacturer allowed for that and provided DC blocking on the AF line). If your interface has a set of plugging information, you mmight want to select the Kenwood set - it is similar to the Elecraft. For details of which pin connects to what signal, consult the KSB2 manual, it contains information on plugging for different microphones. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > After reviewing the archives, I found little to help me hook up the > SL 1 + interface to the K2 > > My mic connector is configured for the Heil Pro Set K2 > Since is has a mono mini-phone jack for PTT, I figured I could use > that line to the interface. > I still need >6VDC to power the interface but the rating of voltage > from the mic connector is 5 VDC ( when I measure it, it more like 3 > VDC). > > There are a number of jumper configurations within the SL 1+ but the > K2 isn't listed. > > If anyone with experience with this interface would like to help out, > I would greatly appreciate. > (the company doesn't answer emails...only phone calls, which are > difficult for me to do at work) > > Thanks! > > John > AB8O > No virus found in this outgoing message.
