from John K3JK

John Klokis
John K3JK here,     Would someone give me some feedback on my K2?   I plugged a mono plug into my keyer jack when I was using an external keyer.  I might have shorted a resistor or diode.  now as soon as i plug the keyer in with a stereo plug, i get a constant carrier.  When I had the mono plug in the keyer jack, i keyed the rig once.  Could I have blown shorted something in the keying circuit?

John,

I seriously doubt that plugging a mono plug in the K2 key jack would
cause any damage - although the K2 would do strange things while the
mono plug was inserted.

To check it out, plug a bare (no wires attached) stereo plug into the
key jack.  If you then get a constant carrier, look for a problem with
the K2, but if the K2 behaves normally (no keying), look for a problem
between your external keyer and the K2 - I would start by checking the
wiring for your new stereo plug.
