help: HRD and serial port problem

RobertG
Hello all...

Semi- off topic problem. I have a BIY Windows computer running XP3 on an
ASUS M2N-SLI deluxe MB. This computer is about three years old and works
perfectly [except for the following...]. In the past, I had loaded and
run w/o problem HRD w/ my K2 #5957. Computer, software and K2 worked
perfectly for about a year - until a bit ago. Then, out of the blue, HRD
couldn't connect to the K2. The HRD serial port utility keeps saying
that the serial port is "blocked." Help from Don and others in the past
established that the radio/cable is working. This is verified by using a
Belden USB-Serial adapter to the cable/K2 that, again, works perfectly.
The Device Manager in Windows says that the serial port is working
properly. I have recently reloaded XP3 [for other reasons], and this
didn't make a difference. Any ideas as to what the serial port is
doing/not doing will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Robert,

If I recall correctly, that is the message HRD gives when it thinks some
other application is using the serial port.

Try re-booting and run HRD before anything else.  If it still does not
work, you may have something in your system startup that is making the
serial port active before HRD gets a chance.  Perhaps the HRD forum can
be of more help than we can here.

Hi,

I have/had the same problem.

First turn on the K3/K2 etc.
Second turn on/login to your PC
then start HRD.

Should work, works for me.
