In reply to this post by KC6CNN
Do you hear the 76 TX relay engage or see the meters change color from green to amber when you key the K3?  If not, the keying signal is not reaching the amp and you need to determine if it's a problem with the amp or the K3.  I hope you've not interchanged RF INPUT with RELAY...BOTH are RCA connectors on the 76 (IMHO a really dumb idea by Alpha).  KEY OUT on the K3 should go to RELAY on the 76...just above the two fuses.

Re: hooking up a K3 to a Alpha 76

Rick Hiller
How about setting it to VOX.  There is a note in the manual about this.
Relay key line will go active, but no power out of the K3 and, therefore, no
power out of the Alpha.

This happens on my K3/Al-80B combo.

I believe so. K3 works great by it's self. Going to try everything again
today since i've had a good nights sleep.
Thanks

Re: hooking up a K3 to a Alpha 76

Jack Brabham
In reply to this post by Rick Hiller
I am having a similar problem, the K3 doesn't key up my 76A.   Not a
molex problem, since the amp keys if I pull the cable from the K3 "key
out" and short the center pin to the shield.  Someone mentioned "config
settings", but I'm not seeing any that seem relevant to "Key Out".  So
my question is "What config settings?".

Re: hooking up a K3 to a Alpha 76

Don Wilhelm-4
Jack,

It sounds like the K3 Keyout is not working,  It is easy to test that --
Put the K3 into TX TEST
Then tap the XMIT button and check the resistance between the center and
shield of the Keyout connector.
If it does not go to a low resistance, it is time to contact K3support.

Make sure something isn't wrong with your RCA cable too. I pinched one behind my desk and that caused an issue. It was very frustrating.

Re: hooking up a K3 to a Alpha 76

Guy, K2AV
Over the years I have had numerous faux paux with RCA plug cables. Two favorites are 1) the shell doesn't really connect with sides of the mating jack.  2) The pin is not long enough to contact inside the jack.  This can be due to short pin, or some detail of the plug shell/jack combo not allowing sufficient insertion.

The stories associated would make a small  book.   73, Guy K2AV
