Frank,
Regardless of the diagrams, the turns specified in the text is correct.
Count the number of times the wire passes through the center of the core
- and yes, that last turn does pass through the center, so count it.
In other words, a straight wire through a toroid is 1 turn, a full wrap
around the core is 2 turns.
That applies to any toroid.
