k2 HEATSINK PANEL DIMS.

k7hbg @dslextreme.com
Hi Everybody;
Is a dimensioned drawing available for the K2 "heatsink" back/bottom panel
regarding the centers of each connector?
This would make it much easier for us to add our modifications to the K2.
Back panel room is quite cramped and new holes must avoid internal parts,
pieces and fiddley bits.
My new K3 must have a bit more room to install modification connectors on
the back!

I don't have a dimensioned drawing, BUT I do have an IMAGE of the
back panel which I can send to you (or anyone else) in any of a
number of bitmapped formats. Then you can load it into a graphics
editor and place your connectors as desired, PRINT out the image and
use it as an overlay onto the back panel for marking (center
punching) hole positions.

This method's worked well for me for the past several years.

Bob,

There is precious little spare room on the back panel of a fully loaded K2.
If you do not have the K60XV installed, you can use those connector holes,
and if you do not have the K160RX, then the Receive Ant position is
available.  Other than thoes locations, the only other place I know about is
room for an RCA jack (or equal size connector) mounted just above the key
jack.  Other locations will interfere with internal components, particulrly
the bandpass filter inductor cans.

If you have the QRP version of the K2, there is a lot more available space
in the top cover, even wth the KAT2 and KIO2 mounted there.  If you do not
install the KIO2, there is that connector space available 9 pins for a DB9
and 15 pins if you use a DB15 - those pins can be prcelled out to a number
of cables from the same connector if multiple devices are to be connected.
It is also possible to snake a cableout the back and install a
'sub-rearpanel' to mount your connectors.
