k2 vco alignment problem

Dan Grizzard
I finally got my k2 #05233 completed and started the alignment process. I ran into some issues and decided to go back and re-check the tests for phases I and II. The tests during their construction were all ok and on the money. This time when I got to the VCO alignment stage the following occurs. Checking the voltage at r30 at 4000 hz was adjustable to 6.0 vdc with no problem. The tone heard on my headset warbles slowly then faster until the tone gets solid. Any movement of the VFO kills the tone but the voltages stay solid on 80 meters. When checking the other bands I get 8.3 vdc and it does not change with L30, or the VFO. The tone SOMETIMES starts the slow warble thru to solid and the voltages are back to the readings during the construction! Using the schematic have traced the problem, maybe, to T5. When I touch the transformer the tone goes away if it is there and does not come back until I cycle the power to the rig. I can hear changes in my headset when probing around
the T5 areas. This is the only location I hear any changes. I have removed the T5, reworked the leads and reinstalled it with no change. I have verified the proper windings per the manual. Thanks in advance for your input. Typical readings on 40 m. 1.9 @ 7000 and 3.89 @7300.
