This is something I have noticed in contests recently, and just now in a
qso with a strong local - after a few minutes, the audio becomes distorted, what we used to call a T7 note. I have read about distortion caused by banging up against the audio limiter, but this happens even at very low audio output. I also have the impression that it does not occur when I first turn on the radio, and that when I'm transmitting a lot, in contests, it starts to happen earlier and earlier, sometimes emerging at the end of a brief contest QSO. Amp or no, makes no difference, and it appears to happen on all bands. Any ideas? -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I noticed this for the first time in the 160M contest last night. It almost sounds like aurora or a faulty relay at the transmit station. I switch to the RX ant and everything was fine. I used my beverage a lot even to the USA because of this. I found that when I had a chance to reboot the K3 the problem was gone for a while.
Could it be one of those COR gadgets reacting to the huge signals in the contest. 73, -Robby VY2SS |

Oops. I managed to get throught the snow to inspect my vertical and found the connection to the feedpoint was broken off and barely touching the bottom of the radiator depending on the whim of the wind.
Hoping for a big improvement tonight. -Robby |
