Are you going to be using ESSB?  If not I don't see much need for the Behringer.  You only have a small amount of transmit bandwidth with the stock filters.

The K3 by itself, used with any decent mic, provides excellent audio.
Heil mics are over-rated, over-advertised, and over-priced. The Yamaha
CM-500 headset mic produces very clean audio plugged directly into the
K3, and the K3 has a built in equalizer for both TX and RX. The
headphones also sound great and are quite comfortable, even for long
periods. The CM500 sells for about $60. Many of us are using it.

Behringer has earned a reputation in the audio world (where I worked for
45 years until i retired) as a lousy company with poor quality products
that were often designs stolen from other companies.

We use a Behringer 802 Mic Mixer at our station. No to help tune the audio (the radio does that fine) but my wife and i are on together often and we do not have to manually switch mics. It took a few mods to do it all, One is the 802 has the 48 volt phantom voltage and we use PC headsets (CM-500) that need much less voltage. I just added a voltage divider to it internally and it works fine. The output of the 802 is higher than needed so i made my cable with a built in PAD, it was 10s of Db but i do not remember just what.  It also allows us to have inputs from the soundcard for voice keying in contests as the line is was lower than mic in.

we also have a behringer headphone amp (4CH) and both work well. The Mic mixer does alow slight tuning for the differences between our voices but its not wildly adjustable. We do have a unique situation and it worked for us, I assume if we each had Heil prosets it would work as well, but i found mine uncomfortable and sold them.

as far as the internal settings, i do not have them in front of me but we tweaked them after setting the 802 buy getting on the air and getting comments from a friend.

settings that were better for me were not as good for my wife so it took some compromise.

at least i have a wife that says things like "why dont we get a K3?" and "when are we putting up a tower?"

Re: k3, heil pr781 mic, behringer 1204usb mixer

David Bunte
Buddy -

I almost never operate phone, but as a retired broadcast announcer, I am
concerned about audio quality.  I set up my K3 with my CM500 with care...
and the few phone contacts I have had have resulted in some VERY positive
comments on my audio quality... including some who assumed that, as a
former broadcaster, I was using thousands of dollars worth of mic,
equalization, and processing hardware.  Other K3 users believe me when I
say it is just the K3 with the equalization carefully set to "sound good".

It appears from the response you got from Barry, that he uses the mixer
primarily to facilitate two mics, and for phantom power.

I wonder what deficits you perceive in your transmit audio that make you
want to use a very expensive mic and an external mixer.
