Hello!
Rs232 don't working well. My computer COM-port (same) working with my K2 very well. I just can send frequency from N1MM-logging program to K3 but nothing else. Here was lightning last weekend. I removed antenna from K3 and computer power cord. I found post on list something about lighting and problem with rs232. What was the solution? Help me! 73 de juha - oh6os K3 #2100 K2 #4781 |

Run the K3 utility and see if you are able to do various tasks, view
the contents, filter settings, etc. If you can do that, then there is most likely just some problem with the MM hookup. If you can't run the utility properly, then if you have a USB serial device, try replacing it, or using different USB ports on the PC. If you can get it to work anywhere, then you have your answer. 73, Guy. On Mon, Aug 16, 2010 at 4:16 PM, Juha - oh6os <[hidden email]> wrote: > > Hello! > > Rs232 don't working well. Are you using a regular rs232 PC port or are you using PC USB and
USB-rs232 cable? Did you get solution already? If not please refer following advice that I had given from tech support of Elecraft egarding same problem. ===Q't=== You need to always be careful to remove *all* cables from the K3 is there is a bad lightning storm. We see lots of damage to customer's K1, K2, K3 each summer when this is not done. I learned this the hard way when I lived in Florida where lightning is severe. Possibly U1 on the KIO3 main board is damaged or the negative supply voltage is too low or is missing. We've seen a low negative level on some rigs if the 1kHz oscillator is not working well. With the serial cable removed, please check to see if there is at least -5VDC at U1 pin 8 on the KIO3 main board, or at the gold plated hole which is right next to pin 8 (bottom left side of U1, as you face the front of the rig). -7VDC or more is normal. Also touch U1 to see if it feels hot or warm, or if it looks to be damaged. If you suspect this is the problem, we can send you a new IC for U1, or the entire KIO3 main board will need to be replaced. Also check the little board that has the ACC and RS232 connectors to see if it might have an open SMD RF choke. Use an ohmmeter to see if all of the RFCs show less than 10 ohms as expected. ==Unq't=== GL! Hi,
I can send commands PC to radio but K3 don't send information to PC. I checked RFCs, every had 4,7 ohm. There was -8,4 V at U1 pin 8. U1 is not hot. Is U1 broken? juha - oh6os |
