George,
Since you suspect no power to U1, I suggest you look at the schematic to
identify the pins of U1 that are connected to the 5 volt supply line and
check for the presence of voltage with a DVM.
If you find no 5 volts where it should be, then check the regulator U3. You
should have 12 volts on the IN lead and 5 volts on the OUT leg. If you have
12 volts but no 5 volts, be certain U3 is oriented correctly. If there is
not 12 volts on the IN leg, check for the presence of 12 volts at P1 pin 8 -
that voltage comes from the K2 over the ribbon cable.
