living in an apt

Hi Daniel.  If your apartment is of metal studs - beams & ect. you might
have a hard time getting out.  I run into this same problem in a motel
room.  What I have found that works is a dipole that uses 2 mobile
whips. I use a 4 inch PVC pipe (cut 3 inches) with 2 feed through 3/8
adapters & SO-239 connector for the coax.  Use a wooden dowel to support
the PVC pipe tied with wire straps.  You can also strap this to the rail
& take down when through or stick it in a flower pot.  Have one of the
whips hanging over the rail to get away from the metal & of course the
other will be facing the sliding door.  Have it up high enough that you
want walk into it & hit your face or worse eye!

I have found 20, 30, & 40 meters works well.  My mobile antennas are old
Ten Tec whips (not made anymore), but believe Ham Sticks might work. By
tuning the whips on the antennas you shouldn't need a tuner to get SWR
down to 1:5 to 1.

Small enamel wire run to a tree, if that is feasible, will work also.
Just have trouble with birds running into it & storms breaking wire.

Good luck!
