matching cw filters

going to order some cw filters ... what I would like to do is this...
(with a sub rx!) get  400 Hz X 2...  and 200 Hz x 2... my question is,
would it be better to wait on the 200 Hz if I cant get both 200 Hz at
the same time or can I get one at a time... get the other later on...

Hi Scott!

If I understand your question correctly, you have a K3 with the KRX3
sub-receiver installed and now you want to add CW filters for both but
are not sure as to whether you should order and/or install matching
filters in both. Firstly, the only reason to purchase matching filters
at the same time is to insure diversity receive coverage such as low
signal work on 160 meters with specialized antennas. If that is not your
goal, then it really does not matter. Secondly, matching offsets on CW
filters only applies to the five pole filters. (200Hz & 500Hz). If you
are purchasing the 8 pole filters (250Hz & 400 Hz), there is a 0 offset
so there is nothing to match. Thirdly, you do not have to have the same
filters in the Main and Sub-Receivers. For example you could have narrow
filters in the Main to allow copying of the DX station and moderate
filters in the Sub to listen for the pileup.

Scott,

If you need narrow filters in both receivers, I would wait on the
200 Hz filters until you can get both at the same time and specify
"filter matching."  Given the variability of crystals, the filter
offsets tend to vary from batch and it is sometimes difficult to
match an arbitrary offset across batches.
