mic gain & compression settings

I have a factory built K3/100.  While in Test mode, I have followed the
steps listed on p. 28 of the manuaI, and  get as far as displaying the
comp/alc on the LCD, but while speaking into the mic and adjusting the
mic for 5-7 bars, no bars appear. Ditto for CMP. Obviously, I am doing
something wrong and need a little help.

Be sure you have the correct mic jack, gain and bias settings for the
mic you are using.
