Thanks Chris and here is the answer
What is the microphone pin-out on the K3? The K3 8-pin microphone connector is wired the same as the K2 using the Kenwood pin-out. Plus we added a lot more mic pre-amp gain (adjustable) in the K3. There's also a 1/8-inch mono mic connector on the rear panel. This helps with keeping the clutter down during the heat of a contest. The mic source is set from a menu option. de WP4o, Ed ----- Original Message ----- From: "G3SJJ" <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]> Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 8:48 AM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] mic pin config for the k3 microphone(what Mic r theFT'susing) > http://www.elecraft.com/K3/K3FAQ.htm#mic%20wiring > > Chris G3SJJ > > > Ed Rodriguez wrote: >> Sorry for the dumb question, but what configuration is the mic pin for >> the K3 , ie; Kenwood 8 pin? what microphones are the field testers >> using? what do you all recommend to use, Elecraft is selling the Hand >> Mic, how does that preform? >> >> thanks, De Wp4o Tampa, Fl awaiting for the 3rd wave of the K3, >> current rig Kenwood TS 950SDX. >> >> ED > _______________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Post to: [hidden email] > You must be a subscriber to post to the list. > Subscriber Info (Addr. Hi Ed!
If you go to the Elecraft website and find the K3 FAQ page there's a mic pinout diagram there. I have the MH2 for when I want to take the rig portable. But from my fixed location I use a PR40 connected to the back. Or for contesting I use a set of Heil Quiet phones. Just about any mic should be able to work well. So if you already have a mic, wire it up in accordance with the diagram on the FAQ. The K3 designers had great forethought to put switchable bias on both the front panel and rear panel mic connections. There should also be plenty of mic gain for most situations. When you start using the radio, you should set the COMP to zero, adjust your your mic gain for correct ALC action, then introduce some compression if desired. I only use about 2 bars of indicated compression on the scale and I get fine audio reports. ------------------------- 73, Greg - AB7R Whidbey Island WA NA-065 On Wed Sep 26 8:10 , "Ed Rodriguez" sent: >Sorry for the dumb question, but what configuration is the mic pin for the K3 , ie; Kenwood 8 pin? what microphones are the field testers using? what do you all recommend to use, Elecraft is selling the Hand Mic, how does that preform? > >thanks >_______________________________________________ >Elecraft mailing list >Post to: [hidden email] >You must be a subscriber to post to the list. >Subscriber Info (Addr. Depends upon how you wired it initially. If you wired it for
Kenwood, then yes, it should fit.
