hello all,
my K2 (no tuner, 10W) is fine on SSB now, I use the Kenwood dynamic microphone (600 Ohm) now and it sounds very good. I have purchased a Heil Proset together with my K2 kit, and now I'd like to connect it to the K2. I have a Heil Kenwood adapter from former times when I connect the headset, there is no modulation from the Headset Microphone. I think it is a condensor Microphone and needs a phantom voltage for proper function. Which resistor value between Pin 6 and Pin 1 do you recommend for this microphone? Is there a special adapter to connect the Proset to the K2 or can I savely use the old Kenwood adapter cable? Another question: when I watch the ALC meter I get the less ALC lights the higher the band. With 10m there is most of the time no ALC LED at all, or only 1 section is lighting. Is this normal? FYI I made the qrpproject SSB modification in my K2 #5203 for better modulation and higher output. 73! de Werner OE9FWV -- You can't have everything. Where would you put it? Is this normal? ------------------- Yes. As you know, the number of ALC bars represents how much the gain is being reduced to keep the transmitter peak output power to whatever you have set with the POWER control knob. The K2's transmitter stages have less amplification on the higher bands. That's why you see less maximum power when you transmit, key down, in CW mode on 10 meters compared to the lower bands. Most K2's have maximum gain at about 40 meters. So, as you compare the ALC action transmitting SSB on the various bands, you'll see that proportionately less ALC is needed on the higher frequencies. As long as one ALC bar flashes occasionally on 10 meters at full power, you have all the mic gain you need and are getting full output. Heil Proset with the IC element (look on the boom pivot) requires a
5.6k ohm resister between pins 1 and 6. Yes it is the IC element in my headset. I have another Heil Headset, with HC-4 inside, will this need another microphone jumper (without the resistor between 1 and 6) ? 73! de Werner OE9FWV -- If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried!
