iMac running MacLoggerDX (from Dogpark Software). Use USB -->Serial cable from Elecraft is my -humble- opinion. Not sure anyone still sells computers with serial ports.
You can buy refurb'ed Macs directly on the Apple website, and save 10-20%. I have purchased several Macs as 'refurbs', but I swear they are all new, probably just dealer stock balancing returns.
If you are mobile, consider the MacBook laptops. I have purchased two for my college student sons. Survived dorms, summer internships, being bounced around in backpacks just fine. One problem came up with a special graphics board option on my older son's MacBook. Apple fixed it free, even though it was out of warranty. I am sold on their quality and support.
