Paul Gates
I need help with the K1. With a antenna, or dummy load I get these results.
I am using a 13.5 v. power supply.. 10amps I get 1.9 watts and 1.0 SWR. When
I first put 8 fresh batteries internally in the K1 I did get 5.3 watts but
now the AAs are down in voltage

Paul:

How big is the wire you are using to connect the power supply to the K1.  It
sounds like you have either too small a conductor for the cable or else a
bad connection in the plug at the power supply or the K1.  Switch the K1
display to read the battery voltage and record it. Then key the rig and see
what the battery voltage reads and record it.  My guess is that there will
be a very large voltage drop in the order of a couple of volts which will
indicate a bad connecting cable.  Also monitor the voltage out of the power
supply with the meter connected to the power supply output terminals in the
receive and transmit modes.

One other thing, are you making this test using the tune mode?  If so the
power is reduced when in the tune mode by the software for the antenna
tuner. This might be your problem too.  Try reading the output with the
power set to 5 watts and use the key not the tune switch on the K1 to key
the K1.
